James Holan has been coaching for 7 years. James grew up in San Francisco and Mill Valley, graduated from Mount Tamalpais High School in 2002, and then attended Linfield College in McMinnville Oregon. James graduated from Linfield with a BA in Mass Communication, focusing on journalism and PR. While at Linfield, James redshirted his first year and lettered the next 4 years in football. James was a three-year starter on the offensive line, winning a D3 National Championship in 2004. After graduating, James coached at the College of Marin for one season before moving to San Diego to pursue a Special Education teaching credential. While in San Diego, James served as Mission Hills High School’s offensive coordinator, offensive line, and tight end coach from 2008 – 2012. James moved back to San Francisco in 2013 to be closer to family.
Nick Safir was born and raised in Oakland, California. After attending Corpus Christi School in Piedmont, he attended high school at Saint Mary’s in Berkeley where he lettered six times between football and baseball. Coach Safir was also the recipient of the school’s award for most inspirational athlete in 2006. After high school he attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, where he continued his football career. In 2010 he received the Morgan Kocher Award for best team player as voted by the players and coaches. Coach Safir has served the last three years as the Head Coach for Piedmont High School’s junior varsity baseball team. He is excited to be coaching with the varsity staff after a successful 2013 season as the JV Defensive Coordinator.
Coach Kennedy, married and the father of two boys, played many sports and graduated from San Leandro High School alongside Coach Coats. Following high school, Mike earned a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After working for several aerospace companies, he settled into a career with a Bay Area software company where he has worked for over ten years. A three-year letter winner at Penn, Mike played for two undefeated Ivy League championship teams. After football, he played rugby for eight years, the last five with Belmont Shore RFC in Long Beach, CA. While at Belmont Shore, Mike played in four and won two national championship competitions. When his playing days were over, Mike coached rugby at the University of Nevada, Reno for two years and volunteered part time at James Logan High School for the 2012 season before joining the staff at Piedmont.
